Program Hallmarks
The College of Education focuses on the intellectual development of the student, while being attentive to the ideals of character, servant leadership, and cultural engagement. A holistic Christian approach also requires the college to give attention to other aspects of the student’s total development by providing opportunities for physical, social, and professional growth. In addition to our emphasis on bringing community into the classroom, our undergraduate and graduate programs expose you to the perfect mix of education theory and practice. Within the first year of our bachelor's degree programs, students observe veteran educators teaching and planning in public schools.
All Teacher Candidates will have coursework designed to prepare our students to work with diverse populations with diverse learning needs. Additionally, the College of Education has developed an add-on certification track in Learning Disabilities which can be taken in the scope of an 8-semester sequence without adding additional time to a candidate's program. Anderson offers a multi-categorical special education program for candidates interested in dedicated work in supporting students in special education across disability categories.
Teacher Candidates will receive clinical support from Cooperating Teachers, university-assigned clinical supervisors, and program faculty. Each of our program faculty and clinical supervisors has extensive experience in classroom teaching to aid in the support of our candidates during field/clinical experiences.
To ensure Anderson University students receive high-quality teacher preparation, we partner with 12 local school districts and many additional centers and schools across the upstate of South Carolina. Each year we host Networking Events for our students to interface with hiring personnel across the area with 40 to 50 unique districts participating to meet our candidates prior to graduation. We are a proud partner of the South Carolina Teaching Fellows program through CERRA (Center for Educator Recruitment, Retention, and Advancement), as well as offering opportunities through the Call Me MISTER program to improve diversity of male educators in the schools.
