About

The Clemson University College of Education offers a variety of teacher preparation programs spanning birth through adulthood. Clemson programs are nationally recognized, with recent top 10 rankings in U.S. News & World Report, College Magazine and others. Marquee programs such as ClemsonLIFE, Call Me MISTER, Reading Recovery and Upstate Writing Project continue to have statewide and national influence.

The College of Education is a close-knit community of learners and scholars committed to excellence – and each other. We are also a proud part of a Carnegie R1 public research institution where purpose-driven students, faculty and staff collaborate on projects that impact our state, country and world. We believe that our collective calling as a University is to change lives, change perception and, through our work, change the world. We participate in these innovative efforts as part of Clemson's land-grant mission to serve the state of South Carolina and beyond.

The professors make us feel really comfortable going into a classroom, and they give us so much advice. I really trust that they're giving me all the tools that I need to go into the classroom and be the best teacher that I can be.

Program Info

The College offers two types of MAT programs: a combined bachelor's and master's program, and a traditional, online master's program.

  • The Teacher Residency MAT Programs in Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle Level, Secondary, Special and Modern Languages Education combine a bachelor's and master's degree program, allowing you to take 12 hours of graduate coursework in your senior year. Then you'll add a fifth year to complete your master's degree coursework and have a year-long clinical residency experience with a trained mentor teacher.
  • The Traditional MAT Programs in Middle Level, Secondary and Modern Languages Education are online programs designed for undergraduate non-education students or mid-career changers who have a content background in English, math, social studies, science or modern languages and are not yet certified to teach.
