You'll spend an average of 650 hours in public school classrooms during your undergraduate experience, starting as early as your freshman year.

The USC College of Education maintains collaborative relationships between the University of South Carolina's educator preparation programs and over 140 PreK—12 schools in 33 districts in Columbia and surrounding communities. You'll be paired with a vetted and trained mentor teacher during your school experiences.

When you graduate as a new teacher, you'll participate in the Carolina Teacher Induction Program, known as CarolinaTIP. The program is a collaboration between the University of South Carolina’s College of Education and school districts across the state. CarolinaTIP will help you make the transition from college student to successful classroom teacher.

The USC Professional Development School Network fosters vibrant partnerships that tap into expertise across a network of 24 schools and 7 districts to engage in important and impactful work. The Mission of the PDS Network is to establish and maintain “sandboxes” for research and innovation where University and public school partners collaboratively investigate student learning, professional development, clinical preparation, and induction to institutionalize best practices across teacher learning contexts.
