In your first two years, you will enroll in foundational coursework along with general education requirements. From the second course in the education foundation sequence, you will be placed in the field providing hands-on experience throughout the program. During the first two years, you will complete all requirements for admission into the state-approved Teacher Education Program.

In year three, you will enroll in methods courses, with field placements specific to your teaching area, and you will take classroom management coursework. 

“In your final year, you will take part in a year-long internship which will follow the school district calendar. During the first semester, you will be in the classroom part-time while completing final coursework. In the final semester, you will be in the classroom full-time

Throughout the final year, you will prepare for and complete teacher certification exams required by the state.

Beginning in your freshman year, you will participate in field experiences in public school settings. Those field experiences take place throughout the curriculum culminating with a year-long internship in the final year of the program.

As a foundational component of the program, you will start with core courses which provide a strong background in diverse populations of which you will engage with throughout your career.

The core courses come together to create a strong foundation that you will build on as you enter more program-specific coursework.

From freshman year through the final semester of the program, you will participate in various field experiences. With each field experience, you will be able to experience different classrooms, interacting with host and mentor teachers in the public schools alongside the instruction and mentorship, and advising provided by Winthrop faculty.
