SC-CREATE
Description
SC-CREATE offers scholarships that pay for 100 percent of course tuition and textbook costs for the programs listed below that certify you to teach special education. Scholarship funds also pay for Praxis II exam costs for the Bachelor's and Master of Arts in Teaching programs.
To qualify for the full-tuition scholarship, you will need to:
- Be employed full time by a South Carolina public school in any position.
- Submit a CREATE application to pursue one of the certification programs listed below.
- Agree to teach for a minimum of three years in an South Carolina public school after you earn your certification
Note that if you do not complete your program or you do not teach for three years, you are subject to repayment of CREATE scholarship funds received.

- Horry-Georgetown Tech/Coastal Carolina University: Offers a fully online combined Associate's and Bachelor's degree that lead to initial certification in Special Education Multi-categorical.
- Southern Wesleyan University: Offers a fully online Bachelor's degree program that leads to initial certification in Special Education Multi-categorical.
- Trident Technical College/College of Charleston: Offers a fully online combined Associate's and Bachelor's degree that lead to initial certification in Special Education Multi-categorical.
- USC Aiken: Offers a fully online Bachelor’s degree program that leads to initial certification in Special Education Multi-categorical.
Alternative certification program for people who have a degree in psychology or sociology
The Program of Alternative Certification for Educators (PACE) offers three graduate courses, all available online.
Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree programs
- Converse College: Offers a Master of Arts in Teaching degree that leads to initial certification in Intellectual Disabilities, Learning Disabilities or Multi-categorical Special Education. Online, after-school and summer courses.
- Francis Marion University: Offers a fully online Master of Arts in Teaching degree that leads to initial certification in Multi-categorical Special Education.
- Lander University: Offers a fully online Master of Arts in Teaching degree that leads to initial certification in Multi-categorical Special Education.
- USC Columbia: Offers a fully online Master of Arts in Teaching degree that leads to initial certification in Multi-categorical Special Education. Also offers a Master of Arts in Teaching degree that leads to initial certification in Severe Disabilities. Online, after-school and summer courses.
- USC Upstate: Offers a fully online Master of Arts in Teaching degree that leads to initial certification in Visual Impairments.
- Winthrop University: Offers a fully online Master of Arts in Teaching degree that leads to initial certification in Multi-categorical Special Education.
